Awarua Trust

This display tells the story of the Awarua Trust set up by Edna Money and the collection from Niue and Tokelau donated by Ross Ardern the father of Jacinda Ardern.

This model of an outrigger canoe was donated by the Awarua Trust. Ross Ardern arranged to finance a shipment of medical supplies to Tokelau through the Awarua Trust. This vaka was a gift of thanks from the Tokelau, Mr Ardern gave the vaka to the Awarua Trust. It was thought that it would be better kept in the Morrinsville Museum as a tribute to Edna Money for her commitment to the museum and the Awarua Trust.

Morrinsville people in the field of music

Maria Dallas, born in Morrinsville in 1946 as Marina Devich, was an apprentice hairdresser. In 1967 the album The Best of Maria Dallas was released only one year into her career.

Bernie Eva was a Life Member of the Morrinsville Country Music Club. Back in the mid-1980s Bernie was picked by RCA to record single records. He passed away on 5th of November 2017.
